I first started playing disc golf in 2004 and like many others my first time was with a couple friends who invited me out to play. Where my experience differs from most is that those friends were women. Fast forward some 10+ years and I am now the Director of my area’s local women’s league and Co-Director of the Michigan Women’s Disc Golf Series.
For the first couple years I played very casually. I was intrigued when I first heard about tournaments. I played a few unsanctioned local events to begin with and then my first PDGA sanctioned event in 2010. In 2013 I placed 6th at Am Worlds in Emporia. I told myself going into that event if I placed well I would move up. So I took the plunge into FPO in 2014. Michigan has some amazing FPO players and my first year I got stomped all year long. I learned more that year than any year before. I appreciate that time as it made me get my head game in check and it taught me how to laugh off the bad shots.
Off the disc golf course Iām a Project Manager for a Construction Management firm. My career keeps me in the Midwest region. I will typically pick one or two bigger events to play but otherwise I compete regionally. If I head to a bigger event I am usually spending my evenings working.
